Person-Centred Counselling
A neurodivergent-affirming space for adults in Manchester and online — somewhere to breathe, be heard, and begin again at your own pace.
Welcome
Maybe things have felt heavy for a while. Or maybe something happened recently and you’re not quite sure how to make sense of it. Either way, you’re here. We can begin there, and take things one step at a time.
Counselling isn’t about being told what to do or having someone pick your life apart. It’s a space to breathe. To say the things you haven’t been able to say elsewhere. To start understanding yourself a little better, at your own pace, without any pressure to be further along than you are.
I strive to create a space which can be experienced as neurodivergent affirming. My aim is not to 'fix you' or make you fit into a mould that doesn't feel true to who you are. Whether you’ve had a diagnosis, are exploring one, or just know that your brain works differently, you’re welcome here exactly as you are.

My approach
Hi, I’m Cheryl. I’m a person-centred counsellor based in Manchester, and I work with individual adults in person, online and by telephone. I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and I’m a registered member of the BACP.
I work with people at all stages of life. That might mean younger people trying to figure out who they are and where they fit, or individuals juggling career pressures, new family dynamics, or big life transitions. I also work with clients who are facing redundancy, health challenges, or the shift that comes with retirement.
Each stage brings its own questions, its own weight. What matters is where you are right now and what support you need. Short-term or long-term, it depends entirely on you. There’s no fixed timeline here.
Person-centred counselling means I genuinely don’t believe in fixing people. You’re not broken. What I do believe in is creating the kind of space where you feel safe enough to explore what’s going on, work through it honestly, and find your own way forward with a new found acceptance.
Counselling and deep self-reflection can feel hard, sometimes unsettling. Taking the time to notice, understand, and sit with your feelings can bring things to the surface that have been buried or avoided, and that takes energy. It can feel heavy. But over time, many people find it leads to a deeper understanding of themselves, a clearer sense of what they feel and need, and a sense of relief, like something they’ve been carrying finally has somewhere to land.
How counselling helps
Counselling gives you a dedicated space, away from the noise of everyday life, where you can talk openly without worrying about being judged or misunderstood.
As your counsellor, I’m not here to give advice or steer you toward any particular conclusion. I’m here to listen purposefully, to help you explore your thoughts and feelings, and to support you in making sense of things at your own pace.
Over time, many people find that simply being heard, really heard, starts to shift something. It doesn’t happen overnight. But it does happen.
People come to counselling for all sorts of reasons. Anxiety, low mood, grief, stress, relationship difficulties, struggles with rejection sensitivity and burnout. Sometimes it’s a life change that’s knocked things sideways. Sometimes it’s something that’s been quietly building for years.
I also work with people navigating late diagnoses, ADHD, trauma, and the particular kind of exhaustion that comes from spending a long time trying to fit into spaces that weren’t built for you.
That’s okay. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so you can get a feel for things before committing to anything. No obligation, just a conversation.
“Trauma is not what happens to you, it is what happens inside you as a result of what happened to you.”
